Mina Protocol Berkeley Mainnet Upgrade scheduled for June 4th
Here we go! We now have a date for the Berkeley Mainnet Upgrade!
Exciting news echoes through the Mina community as we gear up for the Berkeley Upgrade. The upgrade is scheduled for June 4, 2024 and the Mina Foundation, in collaboration with o1Labs, is thrilled to unveil this transformative update to the Mina Protocol.
Following a successful Devnet upgrade earlier this month, where no critical bugs were detected, Mina Protocol now stands on the threshold of a significant milestone. Ecosystem partners are diligently addressing reported issues, while exchanges, staking pool operators, and partners continue rigorous testing to ensure a seamless transition.
The Berkeley Upgrade heralds the integration of three pivotal features
- Streamlined zkApp Programmability (MIP 4)
- Empowering Kimchi Proof System (MIP 3)
- Farewell to Supercharged Rewards (MIP 1)
What Awaits During the Upgrade
The upgrade journey unfolds in three distinct phases: pre-upgrade, upgrade, and post-upgrade.
Pre-Upgrade:
- Node operators and exchanges must update to the pre-upgrade build.
- Archive node operators commence migration as per released documentation.
- Ensure approximately 75% of active stake is upgraded for a smooth fork transition.
During the Upgrade (12-hour Downtime Window):
- Experience a 12-hour network downtime.
- Key milestones include the stop transaction slot and the stop network slot.
- Block producers must maintain at least one node online until the stop network slot.
Post-Upgrade:
- Rigorous network monitoring ensues to ensure chain quality and stake upgrade to the post-Berkeley build.
Key Responsibilities:
Exchanges:
- Upgrade Mina nodes to the pre-upgrade version to minimize disruptions.
- Consider halting MINA deposits and withdrawals during the downtime.
- Transition from deprecated libraries to the new mina-signer library.
Node Operators:
- Stay updated via email and the #mainnet-updates Discord channel.
- Familiarize yourself with the upgrade timeline and take necessary actions.
- Maintain at least one node online throughout the upgrade process.
Stand by for more updates nearer the time on this historic occasion for Mina Protocol!
